⏳ Geospatial Volunteer Opportunities in 2025
If you are looking for ways to give back to the GIS community, develop skills, build relationships and learn about new needs in the location tech world volunteering can be a great way to contribute. An understanding of how geospatial tech is being used on the ground and applying your valuable skills can have lasting impact and incredible outcomes.
Here are 3 of my favorites:
1) Humanitarian OpenStreetMap
Work with teams and agencies on a wide variety of OpenStreetMap contribution projects. The sheer need and variety of these tasks provide many opportunities for contributions at any and all experience and need levels.

2) Volunteer.gov
A more general opportunity to volunteer, but with recent spending cuts at the federal level you can find new and exciting ways to continue the mission of agencies such as the USGS. On top of technical skill, events and in person opportunities can also be found on the Volunteer.gov website.

3) GISCorps
From their mission statement "GISCorps matches qualified volunteers with organizations worldwide to provide short-term GIS services where they are needed most.
